Question For AutoBrag: Your Opinion Please

Question: I am debating whether to buy a 2008 Camry Hybrid or a Camry LE. I drive about 12 to 13k miles per year. Drive is 75% highway.
Which one will depreciate more? Which is easy to sell? And, most importantly, what should I pay for either? Thanks!
MuscleCarGuy: For our comparison we will be using the Toyota factory estimative for combined fuel economy (City/Hwy) at 34MPG for the 2008 Toyota Camry Hybrid and 25MPG for the 2008 Toyota Camry LE 4Cyl. According to EIA (Energy Information Administration) the average gas price in the U.S. on January 28th is $2.977 per gallon.
If you drive an average of 12K miles per year, to drive a 2008 Toyota Camry Hybrid you will need a total of 352.94 gallons of gasoline (using the factory estimative of 34mpg). The total cost to drive the Camry Hybrid will be $1,050.70 per year.
To drive a 2008 Toyota Camry LE 4 cylinder for 12K miles per year you will need a total of 480 gallons of gasoline (using the factory estimative of 25mpg). The total cost to drive the Camry LE 4 cylinder will be $1,428.96 per year.
Resuming our comparison, driving a 2008 Toyota Camry Hybrid for 12K miles per year will save you $378.26 each year. If we use the prices for the two deals below the 2008 Toyota Camry Hybrid with ePrice of $25,990.00 and the 2008 Toyota Camry LE 4 cylinder with ePrice of $18,974.00 the difference is $7,016.00. Using the average gas price of $2.977, you will need to use 2,356.73 gallons of gasoline to break even on both cars. That amount of gas is equivalent to 80,129 miles driving the Camry Hybrid. If you drive 12K miles per year, you will have to drive the Camry Hybrid for more than six and a half years to start saving money on gas.
Our opinion is that if you are debating in between these two cars only on the mpg side, you should get the 2008 Toyota Camry LE 4 cylinder. If you want to help lower the pollution in our planet you should get the 2008 Toyota Camry. When you are choosing between a hybrid and a regular gasoline car, you can’t think about saving gas only. Hybrid cars are still too expensive to be worth saving money at the gas stations.
