Question For AutoBrag: Can I Tow A Motorcyle On A Scion tC?

Question From Jeffery: I have a 2007 Scion TC and had a question about towing. I know the manual says that it is not recommended for towing and didnt specify a tow capacity. I was only going to tow my 200 lb trailer and 400 lb motorcycle. I was wondering if this would cause any significant damage, like if the frame will break/bend etc… Also what would be the best hitch to get? Thank you for your time and hope to hear from you soon!
MuscleCarGuy: Hi, Jeffery. Welcome to our blog!
I have to agree with the manual, it is not recommended to tow a trailer with a motorcycle. That doesn’t mean that you can’t tow it, but you have to think that all the extra weight will be on the rear suspension. Towing the extra weight will reduce significantly the life of your engine, suspension and brakes. Another reason is that the Scion is FWD and if you have all the weight on the back of the car it will effect the traction making the car unsafe. In my opinion, on the long term it is cheaper to rent a truck to tow your motorcycle. Let us know if you have any other question.
