How Much Should I Pay: 2007 Mazda3 I

Question From M.Y.: Hi there,
It looks like we missed that deals (those Mazda3’s don’t seem to stay in used car lot long). Then we found another one, which I like:
2007 Mazda3 i Touring
About 27,000 miles
Automatic Transmission
Color: True Red
The car seems to have a set of new tires.
Exterior has few very minor dents, but otherwise looks really good. Interior looks really good, other than one button on CD player seems to be broken.
The dealer have $14,700 listed on it, and I don’t think they’d budge.
Queen of the Road: Hi, M.Y. Yes, Mazdas are very popular among the used cars. They’re great cars for minimal prices. Here’s what we’ve got for that model…
For a 2007 Mazda3 I Touring with 27,000 miles, prices range from $13,700 (being in above average condition) to $13,000 (being in average condition) and $12,200 (being in below average condition). A dealership will usually aim to sell it for +12%-14% more than wholesale, so their estimated retail prices could range from $13,700 to $15,300.
Personally, I wouldn’t pay $14.7k for an average condition car. Try talking it down because if you buy at that price, you’re not getting a deal. You can mention that you have a dealer friend that informed you of the wholesale prices and that you won’t buy at retail price.
