How Much Should I Pay: 2005 Honda Accord

Question From Barb: We took a look at the 2007 Honda Accord today and I wasn’t satisfied because there was a scratch on the door panel as well as a small tear in the leather interior (drivers seat). Someone must have been careless or something. We did see a beautiful black 2005 Honda Accord EX V-6 with leather interior, X/M radio, navigation system, faux wood grain accent trims with the interior (very nice actually). It has the same options as the EX-L. The car has 45,000 miles and they’re asking $20,995.00, marked down from $22,000.00. The car is in great condition inside and out and being the V-6 is always nice. Are they asking too much or is this a fair price for this particular car with the Navigation V-6 & leather?
Thanks Again~
Queen of the Road: Hi, Barb! Wow, their price is r-i-d-i-c-u-l-o-u-s. The $21k is way too high. The sad part is, people drive off the lot in their new car thinking they really did get a great deal.
For a 2005 Honda Accord V6 EX Auto. w/ Navigation with 45,000 miles, prices range from $16,500 (being in above average condition) to $15,100 (being in average condition) and $13,700 (being in below average condition). Keep in mind that the numbers above are the wholesale prices. A dealership will usually aim to sell it for +12%-14% more than wholesale, so their estimated retail prices could range from $15,300 to $18,300.
Well, now you know the price you should be paying. If you do decide to purchase it, make sure to check CarFax and do plenty of research on the history of the vehicle. Ask for their maintenance records. You can even bring a mechanic for a brief inspection. Good luck and keep us posted on how the purchase goes!
