How Much Should I Pay: 2008 & 2009 Nissan Frontier (Updated)

Question From Jill: I have a dealer searching for an 08 Frontier LE 4×4 with leather and the LE audio package which the closest dealer with the options I want is in Lakewood, CO and I am in Gretna, NE. I have asked them go give me a price to bring this car in to me in Omaha. The other option is to wait until the 09’s come out but shouldnt they be able to give me a better deal on the 08 over the 09 and should I insist on them trailering it in? They want to just have the salesman drive it in from Colorado which will put a lot miles on it and I am not thrilled with that idea. What would you suggest? The other thing is that to get the options I want I have to get leather and I really do not want leather but the dealer said they could take the leather seats out and put in the cloth ones that normally come in the LE. Do you see any potential issues with them doing this?

Queen of the Road: Hi Jill! You’re absolutely right. The 2008s should be offered at much better prices because dealerships are trying to clear the lot in order to stock it with 2009s. Are there Nissan dealerships in your area? If you put in a request, the dealership can order you one. That way, you don’t have to deal with out of state transactions.

In terms of price matching, the purpose of AutoBragBlog is to attach people with great deals from around the country and to apply it in their hometown’s dealership.

I’m also not a big fan of leather. I don’t see any problems with having them switch leather car seats to cloth ones. It’s not uncommon. Regarding the transportation of the vehicle, you have an option to pay to have it trailered to you. But this could all be avoided if you work with a dealership closer to you.

It looks like our last ‘08 deal was just taken. It was pretty good too. See if the dealers you’re working with car match this

Is there another trim that you’re curious about? SE or Nismo? We have plenty of deals for those. Have you considered the Titan? I had one of those and was very satisfied with it. All the Titan owners I know are also very content.

For the 2009s, so far we’ve got SEs.

CarFinance Guru: I would not recommend going “after market” and having the dealer swap out the leather seats for cloth seats.  Usually, people pay extra to have leather put in.  If cloth is your preference then perhaps you can custom order your vehicle direct from the manufacturer.  What specific features of the LE do you want?

Instead of having the salesman drive your car from Colorado to Nebraska you should ask the dealer in Colorado to knock another $500 bucks off so you can fly in and drive the car back yourself.  If you don’t want to do that then make them ship the car to you.  What is the exact vehicle you are looking for?
