How Much Should I Pay: 2007 Acura MDX

Question From Lisa: I am looking at 2 different 2007 MDX’s from a dealer. Both CPO.

#1 Base model, 33k miles, dealer retail asking price $34k

#2 Base model, 26k miles, dealer retail asking price $35k.

Been sitting on the lot for 1.5 months. Gave them an ‘insulting’ lowball offer on #2 of $27k just trying to get them down in price. They countered with $32,500.

What do you think these should sell for?

Queen of the Road: Hi Lisa. Welcome to AutoBragBlog! The prices sounds fair, but you can a little flexibility to go lower. :)

#1   For a 2007 Acura MDX 4WD with 33,000 miles, wholesale prices range from $32,400 (being in above average condition) to $30,000 (being in average condition) and $27,600 (being in below average condition). A fair range for a dealership sell it for +12%-14% more than wholesale, so their estimated retail prices could range from $30,300 to $35,500. A private seller will usually aim to sell it for 5%-10%.

#2  For a  2007 Acura MDX 4WD with 26,000 miles, wholesale prices range from $33,500 (being in above average condition) to $31,100 (being in average condition) and $28,700 (being in below average condition). A fair range for a dealership sell it for +12%-14% more than wholesale, so their estimated retail prices could range from $31,400 to $36,600. A private seller will usually aim to sell it for 5%-10%.

Check the carfax and do plenty of research on the history of the vehicle. Ask for their maintenance records. You can even bring a mechanic for a brief inspection. Here’s a good article to read before continuing: Car Buying Tips From An Insider. Let me know if you have any further car questions.

Good luck and keep us posted on how the purchase goes!

Thanks for the great feedback ‘QOTR’!

I actually ended up purchasing a 2008 base model with 18k miles that was in pristine condition. Gave $31,500 at a Toyota dealer.
