I’m looking for a used 2008 Ford Taurus (unless a new 08 can get in vaguely the same price range with Ford’s $4000 current rebate – the dealers around here (St Louis) still have several 08’s on their lots).

A fair range for a dealership sell it for +12%-14% more than wholesale, so their estimated retail prices could range from $16,000 to $18,600. A private seller will usually aim to sell it for 5%-10%.
