How Much Should I Pay: 2008 Honda Pilot

Question From Catherine: 2008 4wd EXL Honda Pilot w/NAV. Looking to buy a used pilot or highlander. Have come across the aforementioned Black pilot with 17K miles listed at 29K. Is this reasonable, or how much better can I do? Thanks

Queen of the Road: Hi Catherine. Welcome to AutoBragBlog! Is this from a private seller? If so, then $29k is too high. I would ask for wholesale prices based on the condition. If it’s a dealership, then $23,900 to $29,100 is a fair range based on the condition.

For a 2008 Honda Pilot 4WD EX-L with 17,000 miles, wholesale prices range from $26,500 (being in above average condition) to $24,100 (being in average condition) and $21,700 (being in below average condition).

A fair range for a dealership sell it for +12%-14% more than wholesale, so their estimated retail prices could range from $23,900 to $29,100. A private seller will usually aim to sell it for 5%-10%.

Check the carfax and do plenty of research on the history of the vehicle. Ask for their maintenance records. You can even bring a mechanic for a brief inspection. Here’s a good article to read before continuing: Car Buying Tips From An Insider. Let me know if you have any further car questions.

Good luck and keep us posted on how the purchase goes!
