How Much Should I Pay: 2004 Honda Accord

Question From Dianne: I was looking at a 2004 Honda Accord EX-L, 4 dr., 4 cyl.,leather seats, sunroof, 6 disc CD with mileage of 74,380. We made an offer of $9,500. Was this fair?

Queen of the Road: Hi Dianne. Welcome to AutoBragBlog! The offer you made was fair. Who are you buying from? Dealership or private seller? It makes a difference in price.

For a 2004 Honda Accord 4C Sedan Auto with 74,400 miles, wholesale prices range from $10,100 (being in above average condition) to $8,700 (being in average condition) and $7,300 (being in below average condition).

A fair range for a dealership sell it for +12%-14% more than wholesale, so their estimated retail prices could range from $8,300 to $11,300. A private seller will usually aim to sell it for 5%-10%.

Check the carfax and do plenty of research on the history of the vehicle. Ask for their maintenance records. You can even bring a mechanic for a brief inspection. Here’s a good article to read before continuing: Car Buying Tips From An Insider. Let me know if you have any further car questions.

Good luck and keep us posted on how the purchase goes!

I will be purchasing a 2004 Honda Accord EX V6, leather, etc. with 100k miles, new tires and timing belt from a relative for $10,000 if that compares. Can someone tell me if that is good also?
