How Much Should I Pay: 2006 Mercedes-Benz ML350

September 30th, 2008

Question From Harsha:  I live in Georgia and I am looking to buy this used (not certified) from a BMW dealer.  Please let me know, if this is a good deal or not.  If not, please let me know, how much can I offer :

2006 Mercedes-Benz M Class 4dr 4WD 3.5L

Year:  2006
Make:  Mercedes-Benz
Model:  ML350
Trim:  4dr 4WD 3.5L
Mileage:  32,000
asking Price:  $29,999.00  (+Tax+Tag+Title) Drive out around 32K

Queen of the Road: Hi Harsha. You’ve come to the right place. I can look up some BMW wholesale prices for you so see if that’s a good deal.

For a 2006 Mercedes-Benz M Class ML350 with 32,000 miles, wholesale prices range from $30,000 (being in above average condition) to $27,600 (being in average condition) and $25,200 (being in below average condition). Keep in mind that the numbers above are the wholesale prices. A dealership will usually aim to sell it for +12%-14% more than wholesale, so their estimated retail prices could range from $27.7k to $32.9k.

It depends on the little tid bit fees to see what extra fees are included. Just base the invoice price to the wholesale prices above. But overall, I think $30k is about right.

Good luck and keep us posted on how the purchase goes. If you need help with any other cars, come back and ask. Don’t forget to tell your friends and family about our free personal service.

How Much Should I Pay: 2006 BMW 530XI

September 3rd, 2008

Question From Bao: Hi
Planning on buying a 2006 BMW 530XI Wagon. I found one on ebay that seems to fit the bill.
Miles: 7500
Option packages
Premium
Cold Weather
Sirius Sat.
Auto Transmission
It’s being sold by a small dealership in Texas.
I was offered $30,500 which seems like a great price.
Carfax came back clean with one entry, that it was part of a corporate fleet.
Vin:WBANN73516CN01944
Is this price too good to be true?

Queen of the Road: Hi Bao. Welcome to AutoBragBlog! $30,500 does seem like it’s too good to be true. It’s being offered at a wholesale price. Let’s see what all the wholesale prices are…

For a 2006 BMW 530XI Wagon Auto. with 7,500 miles, wholesale prices range from $30,500 (being in above average condition) to $28,100 (being in average condition) and $25,700 (being in below average condition). Keep in mind that the numbers above are the wholesale prices. A dealership will usually aim to sell it for +12%-14% more than wholesale, so their estimated retail prices could range from $27,800 to $33,000.

In my experience, fleet vehicles are well maintained. Ask for service records anyways. A record of oil changes should suggest good care. Hmm… do you live in Texas? Before you bid, I recommend you have this vehicle inspected by a mechanic. A mechanical diag shouldn’t be terribly expensive. Should cost an estimated $100-$200.

Let us know if you (or any of your friends) have any further questions. Goodluck!

How Much Should I Pay: 2006 BMW 330i

August 28th, 2008

Question: Hey, I am looking at a BMW 2006 330i Sedan
It has about 13k miles
Premium Package
Heated Seats
Satellite Prep

I notice the prices dealerships are asking for similar cars seem to keep dropping and none of them appear to be selling, is the market killing the used BMW market thanks to the economy?

Any clue on what to pay would be appreciated, they are asking 33k, which seems WAY high.

Queen of the Road: Hi there!  Welcome to our blog! You’re absolutely right. $33,000 is way high compared to wholesale prices. The market is in fact depressing the entire car market, except for gas efficient cars, such as the Honda and/Toyotas. So now is a good time to buy, yet cars are still being marked up regardless.

For a 2006 BMW 330i Sedan with 13,000 miles, BMW wholesale prices range from $27,500 (being in above average condition) to $25,400 (being in average condition) and $23,400 (being in below average condition). Keep in mind that the numbers above are the wholesale prices. A dealership will usually aim to sell it for +12%-14% more than wholesale, so their estimated retail prices could range from $25,500 to $30,000.

So do not pay anywhere near $33,000. Remember, car salesmen don’t expect consumers to come in so prepared and knowledgeable. People seem to have forgotten that all power lies with the consumer. Let us know how everything goes. Goodluck!

How Much Should I Pay: 2006 BMW 530i

August 27th, 2008

Question From Amrut: How much should I pay for a 2006 BMW 530i 4dr 6 cyl sedan, automatic transmission, 31000 miles, pre-owned pre-certified, premium package?

Queen of the Road: Hi Amrut. Here’s the BMW wholesale prices for the 530i…

For a 2006 BMW 350i with 31,000 miles, prices range from $28,900 (being in above average condition) to $26,400 (being in average condition) and $23,800 (being in below average condition). Keep in mind that the numbers above are the wholesale prices. A dealership will usually aim to sell it for +12%-14% more than wholesale, so their estimated retail prices could range from $26,100 to $31,500.

The prices above are not specifically premium package or pre-certified. You may want a increase your price expectation since the car is premium package and pre-certified.

Follow Up Comment: Thank you for the response. It helps a lot, like always.

For this car, the dealer is asking for $34988. Is this a fair price or could I knock off atleaset $2000 from this price to start negotiation? What is your advise?

Queen of the Road: It depends on what the car’s condition is. Oh, and $35,000 is marked up too high. You have plenty of bargaining to do. That range of $26k to $31.5k is the range where they make enough so don’t be concerned if the salesman gets his cut. Lower that price because $35k is an embarrassing rip off.

You might want to mention that you have a dealer friend who gave you the wholesale prices. That usually throws them off guard. I would ask for $29,000, take it or leave it, but that’s just me trying to ruthlessly get the price as low as possible.

How Much Should I Pay: 2006 BMW 325i

Mileage:22,011

Queen of the Road: Hi. Let’s see what the wholesale price is…

For a 2006 BMW 325I with 22,000 miles, prices range from $23,600 (being in above average condition) to $21,700 (being in average condition) and $19,900 (being in below average condition). Keep in mind that the numbers above are the wholesale prices. A dealership will usually aim to sell it for +12%-14% more than wholesale, so their estimated retail prices could range from $21.8k to $25.9k.

Hmm… $27k is too high. Talk them down to wholesale prices as much as possible. Best of luck and if you find another worthy deal, let us know and we’ll do your due diligence for you.

How Much Should I Pay: 2006 BMW 330i

July 12th, 2008

Question: 2006 BMW 330i
4 door Sedan
Manual transmission
Options: sports package, premium package.
Mileage:25,853
Buying

Dealership asking for $28000, certified pre-owned

Queen of the Road: Hello! Welcome to AutoBragBlog!

For a 2006 BMW 330i with 25,850 miles, prices range from $27,800 (being in above average condition) to $25,500 (being in average condition) and $23,200 (being in below average condition).

Keep in mind that the numbers above are the wholesale prices. A dealership will usually aim to sell it for +12%-14% more than wholesale, so their estimated retail prices could range from $25,500 to $30,500.

$28k is an ok price. Not a “deal“, but it’s the expected price from a dealership. I would try and bargain down to wholesale prices otherwise I would never pay retail price. If they won’t budge with prices, just walk away. Have you tried looking online for private sellers? Majority of the time, they offer their cars at better prices. Try Craigslist or AutoTrader.

If you do end up buying from that dealer, be sure to do plenty of research on the car if you do decide to purchase it. Don’t hesitate to bring a trusted mechanic with you.  Let us know if you have any further questions.

Good luck and keep us posted on how the purchase goes. If you need help with any other cars, come back and ask. Don’t forget to tell your friends and family about our free personal service.
