How Much Should I Pay: 2006 Honda Accord

July 15th, 2008

Question From Kynan: What is the best price I can pay at auction for an excellent condition 2006 Honda Accord EXL V6 with Navigation.

MuscleCarGuy: Hi Kynan. Welcome to AutoBragBlog, where we do all the car price researching for you. Are you looking for the Accord Sedan or Coupe?

For a 2006 Honda Accord V6 Sedan EX-L with Navigation with 36,000 miles (Average), prices range from $19,700 (being in above average condition) to $18,250 (being in average condition) and $16,750 (being in below average condition). Keep in mind that the numbers above are the wholesale prices. A dealership will usually aim to sell it for +12%-14% more than wholesale, so their estimated retail prices could range from $18,700 to $22,500.

For a 2006 Honda Accord V6 Coupe EX-L with Navigation with 36,000 miles (Average), prices range from $17,750 (being in above average condition) to $15,550 (being in average condition) and $13,350 (being in below average condition). Keep in mind that the numbers above are the wholesale prices. A dealership will usually aim to sell it for +12%-14% more than wholesale, so their estimated retail prices could range from $15,000 to $20,300.

Queen of the Road:  Hi there! Welcome to AutoBragBlog. For a 2006 Honda Ridgeline 4WD V6 Crew Cab RTL with 43,000 miles, prices range from $18,300 (being in above average condition) to $16,350 (being in average condition) and $14,500 (being in below average condition).

Keep in mind that the numbers above are the wholesale prices. A dealership will usually aim to sell it for +12%-14% more than wholesale, so their estimated retail prices could range from $16,100 to $20,200. $19,000 is so-so. I wouldn’t consider it a deal. Since trucks and SUVs are a headache to get off the lots, you should have an advantage over the dealership.  No one wants to buy trucks/SUVs with gas prices soaring and everyone is trying to sell their trucks. I wouldn’t bother with dealers.

Have you tried looking for private sellers? You’re more likely to get better deals with them since they’re eager to get rid of their gas guzzlers and trying to downsize to fuel efficient cars. Good luck and keep us posted on how the purchase goes!

How Much Should I Pay: 2006 Honda Accord (Updated)

June 26th, 2008

This Is An Update To A Previous Question

Follow Up Comment: I’m still looking at Honda Accords. I looked at one dealers which I’m taking a look soon. Can you tell me if this sounds to be a good deal for this particular vehicle? Would it be in excellent condition or not so for this price? Would Internet pricing be cheaper than not?

2006 Honda Accord EXL V-6 Sedan with no navigation. There are a lot of nice options in this car as well. The mileage is 25,180 and they’re asking $19,500.00. Waiting on the CarFax on this one.

I was also looking at a 2005 Honda Accord EXL v6 with navigation fully loaded for 20,965.00 with 46,000 miles and only 1 owner. The CarFax was a clean report as well. Which year is better if any with these two years mentioned? Does the 2005 sound like a good deal as well?

Thanks Again~
Rob

MuscleCarGuy: Hi Rob, It is a pleasure to help people pay a fair price on a car purchase.

For a 2006 Honda Accord Sedan EX-L V6 with 25,180 miles, prices range from $19,350 (being in above average condition) to $17,500 (being in average condition) and $15,700 (being in below average condition). Keep in mind that the numbers above are the wholesale prices. A dealership will usually aim to sell it for +12%-14% more than wholesale, so their estimated retail prices could range from $17,500 to $22,000.

For a 2005 Honda Accord Sedan EX-L V6 With Navigation and with 45,000 miles, prices range from $16,400 (being in above average condition) to $15,000 (being in average condition) and $13,600 (being in below average condition). Keep in mind that the numbers above are the wholesale prices. A dealership will usually aim to sell it for +12%-14% more than wholesale, so their estimated retail prices could range from $15,200 to $18,700.

The 2006 sounds like a good deal, but for the 2005 they will have to lower a couple thousands to be worth it. You shouldn’t pay $1,500 more for a car that is one year older and has 20K miles more just because of the Navigation. How Much Should I Pay: 2006 Honda Civic (Updated)

June 25th, 2008

This Is An Update To A Previous Question

Follow Up Comment:  I talked to Private Seller on the phone before going to the house. Asked her for the VIN. As soon as I asked she revealed there was two accidents on the vehicle. So I looked up the carfax and it was CLEAN. Nothing on it. WOW! (makes future reference not to rely on carfax). She said the accidents were fender benders and it looked like she rear ended someone the first one and that cost $2000 to insurance. So I factored that in. I took it for a test drive and it drove perfectly. Check interior was great. There was a ding on the hood about an inch long.

After I got back from the drive I asked her if she was willing to negotiate the price and she asked me what I thought and I said 13,500. She said alot of people ask her that but I was the only normal one. I then asked her if she could take it to my mechanic which is only about 5 miles from her house tomorrow, and that’ll cost $127. She agreed on that and I’ll pay her for that either way. So everyone looks good on this deal so far. Thanks for all the advice. So do we go to the DMV to transfer the title, how does that part work? Taxes (is there a way around that)?

Queen of the Road: How about that? The carfax is CLEAN? LOL. Yes, only when the car is fixed at the dealership’s service dept. or well-known big-name shops will it turn up on Carfax.

Alright, when you buy the car from the private party, you’ll pay the owner and the owner should give you the title. On the title, it’ll state the amount you purchased the car for. The taxes will be on the price that they wrote on the title and you’ll pay tax and registration to the DMV when you go to transfer the car. So, you’ll pay taxes on whatever amount you wrote on the title. Let us know how everything goes! Goodluck!

This Is An Update To A Previous Question

Follow Up Comment: I’m sorry if I didn’t sound perfectly clear. But my offer was 14,000. They put that on the worksheet (the paper where they jot down everything). I wasn’t ready to buy the car with cash because I didn’t transfer the funds to my checking account. I’m exactly sure if they could do 14K. It seemed like he was going to talk to his manager for approval. This car did have Navigation. It is one of my primary choices right now. I’m not sure why they wanted me to sign that worksheet, I guess its part of the negotiation process? I still didn’t want them to think they had the upper hand the whole. I told them I’d come back because I still wanted my mechanic to check it out and I wanted to make them feel like I had the upper hand.

The car fax is clean, but seems odd. It’s had TWO owners so far and i’m not sure why the second owner only had 200 miles on the vehicle. It also looks like the car has been for sale since January. I’m not sure what to make of it. Here is the link : http://www.carfax.com/cfm/ccc_DisplayHistoryRpt.cfm?partner=HMN_0&vin=2HGFG12896H505359

Thanks for you help again. Maybe you can shed some light on my situation.

Queen of the Road:  Hi Cali. You were clear with your words, I just couldn’t believe they were willing to drop the price so suddenly while negotiating. Yes! Bring your mechanic or bring the car to the mechanic. Although it seems awkward, ask if the car has ever been in an accident.

Regarding the CarFax, very strange. The 2nd owner had the car for 2 months and drove 200 miles, but it was for sale for 5 months? Suspicious. Ask the dealer why the last owner had the car for only 2 months and why they had the car for sale for 5 months. Majority of the time, Carfax is pretty accurate, but there are other times, when it’s completely off.

How Much Should I Pay: 2006 Honda Accord

Question From Rob: I was also looking at a Honda Accord EX 4 dr Sedan 6 Cyl. auto with leather interior but there is NO navigation in this particular car. It does have the Anti-theft system, moonroof, XM radio, etc, just as the 2007 snd looks to be in excellent condition. The 2006 is also claimed to be the internet price from the Dealership and has 31,000 miles and they’re asking $22,000. To me, this sounds to be a bit high for the 2006 with this many miles?

Thanks Again~
Rob

MuscleCarGuy: Hi Rob. Welcome back to AutoBragBlog, where we do all the car price researching for you.

For a 2006 Honda Accord EX Sedan V6 with 31,000 miles, prices range from $18,800 (being in above average condition) to $17,000 (being in average condition) and $15,200 (being in below average condition). Keep in mind that the numbers above are the wholesale prices. A dealership will usually aim to sell it for +12%-14% more than wholesale, so their estimated retail prices could range from $17,000 to $21,400.

The $22K that the dealer is asking for the Accord is a bit high; you should negotiate it for a maximum off $21K. If we had to choose between a 2007 Accord 4 cylinder with navigation and 18K miles or a 2006 Accord V6 with 31K miles we would get the 2007. With the 07 you get an extra one year warranty or 13K miles. Another reason to get the 2007 is that with prices for gas getting close to $5 per gallon, the V6 will depreciate much more. Good luck and keep us posted on how the purchase goes! Don’t forget to tell your friends and family about our free personal service.

How Much Should I Pay: 2006 Honda Civic (Updated)

June 23rd, 2008

This Is An Update To A Previous Question

Follow Up Comment:  Whats the best way to negotiate with the used dealership? Print out the stuff you gave me and show it to them or by email? Did the price on the 2006 include the navigation?

Your prices “For a 2006 Honda Civic Coupe EX auto with 28,700 miles, prices range from $16,100 (being in above average condition) to $14,700 (being in average condition) and $13,300 (being in below average condition). Keep in mind that the numbers above are the wholesale prices. A dealership will usually aim to sell it for +12%-14% more than wholesale, so their estimated retail prices could range from $14,900 to $17,900.”

Went to the certified honda dealer around 5PM test drove the car. It drove pretty good. Everything seemed to work. Got out of the car then, started talking money. They wanted 19,999 that’s what it said on the car I guess they fixed the price. They wouldn’t start negotiations they started saying numbers like 18K 17K I said thats too much. I finally threw out 14K. I didn’t believe that they could bring it down that low and left the first time. Came back into the dealer and talked on the phone with my girlfriends dad and he said to do it.

So I went back in and said I’ll buy today for 14K. Then as we were walking up to the office they asked how I wanted to pay I said “flat out”. They brought me into the office and started writing up the worksheet with all the options on there and then they wrote something along the lines of, “I will buy this car today if I get the asking price of 14,000″. This is where I stopped negotiations. I didn’t want to put my signature on the worksheet on the papers and wanted to have a mechanic come check it out. They told me they would give me the option of having it checked out within 24 hours then bring it back to dealer if there are any problems. I walked out and debated with my girlfriend if I should go back and do it. Started to transfer funds around my bank accounts. Then figured I can come back tomorrow. One of the dealers kept driving by once in a minivan then in motorcycle. They came out about an hour later and started chit chatting with us. They told us they met the quota for the day and they couldn’t do anything for me. He said come back tomorrow. Then continued by telling me to check out other cars and other dealerships and asked me what other options I’ve been looking at and I told him I found one with leather for 14.5K private seller and he was impressed.

So they weren’t trying to mess around with me and let me walk away and I was bewildered. They told me to come back tomorrow and try to get it if I want. I don’t know if this was the right way to do it. I also don’t know if I should really get a mechanic to come check it out. Afterall, it is a certified honda. Thats the story for the most part if anyone could help me out I’d be grateful. Thanks.

BTW I walked around the car showed the all the imperfections and a ding. We all agreed on a “average” condition.

Queen of the Road:  Hi Cali,

I’m not sure if that 2006 included Navigation. As for your experience at the dealership, that’s the problem when buying a car from dealers. You always think you’re getting a good deal. I can’t believe they lowered it from $18k to $14k! $14k is a good deal, especially under warranty.

Just make sure to do a Carfax to check the title for accidents. Since the car is certified, it is more promising that the car is on good shape and it’s not as necessary to take it to a mechanic. It’s always better to make sure you know everything. In non-certified cases, I always recommend you bring a mechanic or get the dealership’s permission to take the car to a trusted mechanic. Usually the dealers know the mechanics nearby and will have them skew the results.

Regarding the “I will buy this car today if I get the asking price of 14,000” in the contract, I have no idea where they could write that in the contract. Was that even a contract? Are you going to reconsider buying the car?

How Much Should I Pay: 2006 Honda Accord

Question From Barb: Hi!   I am looking at a 2006 Honda Accord EX automatic. Leather interior, sat radio system, Anti theft devices(s). The vehicle is a 6 cyl and has 31,088 miles. The dealership is asking $21,985.00

Can you please let know if this is a fair price and what I should be paying for this particular car?

Thanks!
Barb

Queen of the Road: Hi Barb! Welcome back! Wow! $22k. They’re really shooting for the stars on this one. You can purchase a brand new 2008 Honda Accord at that price for less. Here’s the wholesale prices for that Accord.

For a 2006 Honda Accord V6 Coupe EX with 31,100 miles, prices range from $17,400 (being in above average condition) to $16,000 (being in average condition) and $14,500 (being in below average condition). Keep in mind that the numbers above are the wholesale prices. A dealership will usually aim to sell it for +12%-14% more than wholesale, so their estimated retail prices could range from $16,200 to $19,300.

Here’s the Lowest Internet Price for a NEW 2008 Honda Accord EX 2dr Coupe (2.4L 4cyl 5A): $21,364.00
MSRP: $24,386.00
ePrice: $21,364.00
Savings: $3,022.00
% OFF MSRP: 12.39%

Barb, that used Accord is far from a deal. Even if you negotiated between $16k-$19k, it’s still not that great of a deal unless you’re approaching wholesale prices. Either he drops his numbers low low low or you keep looking. When you do find another car, come back and we’ll give you the inside scoop again.

How Much Should I Pay: 2006 Honda Accord

Question From Barbi:  The dealer that I was looking at is asking $20,495.00. The car has 20,822 miles. What should I be paying for this vehicle? Is the cost that they\’re asking for too high? Leather interior/automatic trans.

Thanks!
Barbi

Queen of the Road: Hi Barbi. Welcome to our blog. Did the car have a navigation system?  To answer your question, yes, the asking price is too high. Here are the wholesale prices…

For a 2006 Honda Accord V6 EX-L with 20,800 miles, prices range from $18,300 (being in above average condition) to $17,800 (being in average condition) and $17,400 (being in below average condition).
