How Much Should I Pay: 2008 Acura TL

September 5th, 2008

Question From M:  how much should i pay for a 2008 acura tl with 6k miles on it? they are changing the body style in a month, already a year old, and the car sales market it tough right now and they are looking to get rid of cars. thanks

Car Finance Guru:  If you are buying a used car with a new body style coming out on the next year’s model it would be a better idea to actually wait until the new model hits the showroom floor. The reason being the price of the old body style will drop much more than you expected. You will find that a little more patience will save you thousands of dollars.

Queen of the Road: Hello there! Let’s see what Acura wholesale prices we have in store.

For a 2008 Acura TL with 6,000 miles, wholesale prices range from $27,200 (being in above average condition) to $26,700 (being in average condition) and $26,100 (being in below average condition). Keep in mind that the numbers above are the wholesale prices. A dealership will usually aim to sell it for +12%-14% more than wholesale, so their estimated retail prices could range from $28,700 to $29,900. Private sellers generally sell for 5% to 10% above wholesale prices.

If you’re certain that you’re going to purchase it, do a carfax and bring a trusted mechanic for a quick inspection. If you, or any of your friends, have any further questions, don’t hesitate to ask us anything. Goodluck and keep us posted!

Question For AutoBrag: 2008 Acura MDX Tech vs. 2008 Toyota 4Runner V8 (Updated)

April 8th, 2008

This Is An Update To A Previous Question

Follow Up Comment: Thanks.  I’m finding your site quite intriguing – what a valuable service.  The Toyota 4 Runner we’ve been looking at is a limited V8 with the navigation system and a leather interior.  Both cars will need a hitch, but I think it is standard with the Toyota, but an add-on with the acura.  Anything else you need to know?  Thanks, kathy

Queen of the Road: Hi, Kathy.  For a 2008 Toyota 4Runner Limited 4dr SUV (4.7L 8cyl 5A),

ePrice: $36,454.00

0.00%-5.90% APR up to 60 Months.
1.90%-4.90% APR up to 48 Months.
Offer Expires: 4/30/2008

A Cash Back Incentive of $1,500 is being offered to the Consumer upon purchase. Offer Expires: 4/30/2008

Here’s a few quotes for the 2008 Acura MDX Hitch. Every Acura is individually owned, so all their prices vary. If you do end up pursuing the Acura, I recommend calling a few Acura dealerships in your area to see what their hitch kits cost.

Cush Acura of San Diego: $1100 + tax
Oakland Acura: $397 hitch, $103.2 bumper trim kit and $199 wire harness

Precision Toyota of Tucson: $322 hitch, $48 center support bracket and installation fee $555.

You may even find some dealerships will ship for free if you reside close enough. For instance, Oakland Acura has the hitch on sale 20% if you purchase online and free shipping if you live in the SF Bay Area. So the effort to call around can save you hundreds of dollars.

Question For AutoBrag: 2008 Acura MDX Tech vs. 2008 Toyota 4Runner V8

Question From Kathy: I know…they aren’t quite in the same category.

MDX - tows 5K, has 3rd row seat and nice handling/ride for everyday driving

4Runner - offers V8 for similar price as V6 MDX, plus tows 7K.

We plan to own this car and want it to grow with us…we may end up with a larger airstream camper in the next few years, so the flexibility and the reliability of the Toyota is intriguing. Although the MDX is a bit more expensive, it is also probably more practical for day-to-day living.

What would you estimate the price for each would be? And, if you have experience with these vehicles…which is better value at that price?

THANKS!
Kathy

Queen of the Road: Hi Kathy! How heavy do you assume the camper you’ll be purchasing will be? I researched a few airstream websites and it seems the range of weight varies from 3,000 lbs to 6,000 lbs, unless you want to get on of those 31 footers. We recommend the Acura because the car is overall nicer than the 4runner and I’m sure more enjoyable to drive when the camper isn’t attached.

I need more details about the Toyota 4 runner. Is it the Limited, Limited 4WD, Sport Edition 4WD, SR5 or SR5 4WD? As of today, we have just introduced Acura deals into our car price search engine. The bad news is that we currently do not have Acura MDX Tech deals, but in the process of searching for some.
