How Much Should I Pay: 2008 Subaru Outback & How Much Should I Sell: 2000 Volkswagen GTI

December 23rd, 2008

Question From Ron: How much should I pay for a 2008 Subaru Outback 2.5i Limited and how much receive for my 2000 VW GTI VR6 with 100K but every option and very good shape. Thanks!!! How much for the same 2009 Subaru?

Queen of the Road: Hi Ron. Welcome to AutoBragBlog!

This is what we currently carry for the 2008:

2.5I 4dr Wagon AWD (2.5L 4cyl 4A)
3.0 R L.L. Bean Edition 4dr Wagon AWD w/VDC (3.0L 6cyl 5A)

And this is what we have for the 2009:

2.5i 4dr Wagon AWD (2.5L 4cyl 4A)
2.5i Special Edition 4dr Wagon AWD (2.5L 4cyl 4A)
3.0R Limited 4dr Wagon AWD (3.0L 6cyl 5A)

Just leave your choices in the reply/comment box and I’ll get started on looking up Subaru deals.

For a 2000 Volkswagen GTI Hatchback VR6 with 100,000 miles, wholesale prices range from $4,900 (being in above average condition) to $3,400 (being in average condition) and $1,900 (being in below average condition).

A dealership will usually pitch you a low estimate, then turn around and sell it for +12%-14% more than wholesale, so their estimated retail prices could range from $2,500 to $5,700. A private seller will usually aim to sell it for 5%-10%.

How Much Should I Pay: 2009 Subaru Forester

December 10th, 2008

Question From Meagan: Hi,

What is the best price you see for a 2009 Subaru Forester 2.5x Premium? For Dec 2008 or early 2009, do you know of any rebates, incentives, or dealer holdbacks?

Thanks for your help!

MuscleCarGuy: Hi Meagan, Welcome to AutoBragBlog, where we do all the car price researching for you.

How do you apply these prices?

The best prices we have found are from Sport Mazda Subaru in Orlando, FL and Fitzgerald Subaru of Gaithersburg in Gaithersburg, MD, you can print out all the blue links and take them to your local Subaru dealerships. But before you go, we highly recommend you call and make an appointment to see the Internet Sales/Fleet Manager because he/she should know exactly what you’re talking about. Avoid the floor salesmen, head straight to the Internet Sales Manager.

If they don’t believe your prices, ask to use one of their computers so they can see where these figures came from. It’ll be impossible for them to doubt you because you’re pulling up a Subaru dealership’s website and checking their inventory. Remember, cars are a commodity so these prices apply everywhere in the U.S. This car in Florida should cost the same in California. The taxes vary by state.

How Much Should I Pay: 2009 Subaru Forester

November 11th, 2008

Question From NeedACarForSnow: Thanks for the previous prices on used Subaru. Now I am actually interested in buying a new one — 2009 Subaru Forester 2.5X Limited (PZEV). What would be a better price?

In addition, how about Subaru Forester 2.5X Limited with Navagation (PZEV)?

I am in NY state (and PZEV is required I believe) and the Zip code is 14850.

I am willing to drive or fly to other places (DC or Orlando, for example) to get my dream car if necessary.

Thanks again! You are terrific!!

Queen of the Road: Hello again! You’re very welcome and we’re glad we can help you out. The deals below from Fitzgerald Subaru of Gaithersburg are the best of what we’ve found for those trims you listed.

For a 2009 Subaru Forester 2.5XT Limited 4dr SUV AWD w/VDC (2.5L 4cyl Turbo 4A),

The Largest Percentage Off MSRP Price: $24,469.00
MSRP: $27,141.00
ePrice: $24,469.00

ePrice: $26,284.00

% OFF MSRP: 9.07%

Both of these Thumbs Up deals are located in Maryland. Hopefully these are helpful.

There aren’t any incentives being offered for the Subarus at the moment. If you’d like to research other Subaru deals, feel free to look through www.AutoBrag.com. Below is an explanation of the data above and how to utilize these deals from out of state in your local dealership.

What are all these blue links for? The first blue link breaks down the numbers so that you don’t have to do any math or researching. You’ll see exactly how much money you’re saving if you pay the “Internet Price”. It also lists the National Average Discount, the National Maximum Discount and the National Average Price for each vehicle. We also provide our personal opinion to whether we think the deal is good or not.

If we approve the deal, we’ll show a thumbs up and “Bring Your Checkbook“.

If we think the deal is ok, we’ll show a thumb tilted sideways and “Fair Market“.

If we disapprove the deal, we’ll show a thumbs down and “Keep Shopping“.

The second blue link is the proof you’ll need when you step foot onto the dealership. Don’t leave home without it! It’s the page that shows the price which you’ll be asking for. It’s basically what you need to pull up on their computers if they don’t believe you found that price online form that dealer’s inventory.

How do I use these deals from  Maryland in New York? Print out all the blue links above and take them to your local dealerships. But before you go, we highly recommend you call and make an appointment to see the Internet Fleet Manager because he/she should know exactly what you’re talking about. Avoid the floor salesmen, head straight to the Internet Sales Manager.

If they don’t believe your prices, ask to use one of their computers so they can see where these figures came from. It’ll be impossible for them to doubt you because you’re pulling up dealership’s website and checking their inventory. It may take a few tries before a dealership agrees to honor the deal.

The effort is certainly worth it. Saving an extra thousand(s) really pays off at a time like this. Remember, cars are a commodity so these prices apply everywhere in the U.S. Don’t forget to tell your friends and family about our free personal service. Goodluck and keep us posted!

How Much Should I Pay: 2005 2006 2007 2008 2009 Subaru Forester

August 28th, 2008

Question: You are such a nice guy!

My first post, so please pardon if not conforming to the standards here.

I am looking for a AWD car for driving in heavy snow (upper state New York, around Syracuse/Ithaca/Elmira) and need to drive uphill. My search revealed that the best car for that would be Subaru Forester (and Volvo but tends to be expensive).

so, would you please help me?

here are few options for me:

1. Used (certified) car:
Year: 2005, 2006, 2007 or 2008
Make: Subaru
Model: Forester, 4WD, 4cyclinder, Auto
Trim: X or 2.5 X or 2.5 XT (not too care)
Mileage: below 60,000
VIN:
Buying
From A Dealership (better to be certified and/or with warranty)

I am also open to a new car instead (2008 but seems to be difficult to find; 2009)
2. New car
Year: 2009
Make: Subaru
Model: Forester 4WD, 4C, Auto
Trim: (does not matter); X or X premier
Mileage:
VIN:
Buying From A Dealership

Color does not matter; a good price would be a key.
Not inerested in leasinng nor financing unless the rate is 0% (or below 2%).

Thank you so much!

Queen of the Road: Hi there. Thank you for your kind words. I can definitely help you with wholesale prices, but the range needs to be narrowed down. So I’m going to give you an idea of the wholesale prices by matching each year with a different trims at 60,000 miles. That way, you’ll know the what not to pay for cars higher than 60,000 miles.

When you find a specific car, you can run it through me again and I’ll narrow down the range.

For a 2005 Subaru Forester AWD X with 60,000 miles, wholesale prices range from $11,700 (being in above average condition) to $10,200 (being in average condition) and $8,700 (being in below average condition). Keep in mind that the numbers above are the wholesale prices. A dealership will usually aim to sell it for +12%-14% more than wholesale, so their estimated retail prices could range from $9,900 to $13,200.

For a 2006 Subaru Forester AWD X with 60,000 miles, wholesale prices range from $13,200 (being in above average condition) to $11,700 (being in average condition) and $10,300 (being in below average condition). Keep in mind that the numbers above are the wholesale prices. A dealership will usually aim to sell it for +12%-14% more than wholesale, so their estimated retail prices could range from $11,700 to $14,800.

For a 2007 Subaru Forester AWD 2.5X with 60,000 miles, wholesale prices range from $12,400 (being in above average condition) to $11,500 (being in average condition) and $10,500 (being in below average condition). Keep in mind that the numbers above are the wholesale prices. A dealership will usually aim to sell it for +12%-14% more than wholesale, so their estimated retail prices could range from $12,000 to $14,000.

For a 2008 Subaru Forester AWD 2.5X with 60,000 miles, wholesale prices range from $14,800 (being in above average condition) to $13,700 (being in average condition) and $12,600 (being in below average condition). Keep in mind that the numbers above are the wholesale prices. A dealership will usually aim to sell it for +12%-14% more than wholesale, so their estimated retail prices could range from $14,300 to $16,700.

For the 2009 Forester, here’s the trim I have in store. Take a look and choose which you’re interested in.

2.5X 4dr SUV AWD w/Premium Pkg,VDC (2.5L 4cyl 4A)

2.5XT Limited 4dr SUV AWD w/VDC (2.5L 4cyl Turbo 4A)

2.5XT 4dr SUV AWD w/VDC (2.5L 4cyl Turbo 4A)

2.5X 4dr SUV AWD w/VDC (2.5L 4cyl 4A)

Just enter your choice into the comment box below and I’ll begin researching deals for you.
