How Much Should I Sell: 2005 Scion tC

July 29th, 2008

Question: thanks for all the help you’ve been giving people.

I’m in the market and have found what I want:

Make/Model: 2006 Mazda MazdaSpeed6
Trim: GT
Mileage: 16,250
Installed Options: Moonroof
Zip: 07470

The vehicle is not certified pre-owned (CPO) but according to the dealer it may be able to be. That would bring a 6 year/100k mile warranty. Dealer also states that car has new tires. Have only seen on website and wanting to have the deal just about done before going in. It’s in NJ, I’m in PA.

Dealer is asking $23,995.

Also, I’d be trading in:

Make/Model: 2005 Scion tC
Trim: 5 Speed
Mileage: 72,500
Options: Front & Rear Curtain, Subwoofer, Rear Spoiler, Clear Bra

Has some minor wear and tear and will require tires by winter. Inspected until March 2009. Curious what the wholesale auction value is on the car so I know how much KBB is off ($9,900).

TIA!

Queen of the Road: Hello hello! Sorry, buddy. I don’t have prices for that Mazda trim at the moment. For the Mazda6, I only seem to have the S and I. The good news is that I have wholesale Scion prices for you.

For a 2005 Scion tC with 72,000 miles, wholesale prices range from $11,300 (being in above average condition) to $9,700 (being in average condition) and $8,000 (being in below average condition). Keep in mind that all the numbers above are the wholesale prices. A dealership will usually aim to flip it for +12%-14% more than wholesale, so their estimated retail prices could range from $9,200 to $12,900.

I recommend you try selling it yourself. Almost all our readers receive trade-in quotes that are dissappointing and much less than if they sold privately. Best of luck and let us know if there’s anything else we can help you with.

How Much Should I Pay: 2007 Acura MDX

July 28th, 2008

Question From Sai: I am looking to purchase a used 2007 MDX with Navigation and DVD with about 25, 000 miles on it. How much do you think I should be spending? Even though the truck market is sluggish, it seems like the 2007 MDX is a “hot” commodity on the used market according to what I am seeing on ebaymotors, cars.com and autotrader. Let me know your thoughts.

On a side note, I am looking to sell my green 2002 Audi A4 3.0 Quattro Auto with 115K on it. The car is in fairly good condition but needs 4 new tires and a timing belt change which I skipped at 110K. No major accident. Dealer maintained. Everything works. I commute 100 miles daily which explains the high miles. What do you think I will get for it private party?

MuscleCarGuy: Hi Sai. Welcome to AutoBragBlog, where we do all the car price researching for you.

For a 2007 Acura MDX Technology Pkg with 25,000 miles, prices range from $32,300 (being in above average condition) to $30,300 (being in average condition) and $28,200 (being in below average condition). Keep in mind that the numbers above are the wholesale prices. A dealership will usually aim to sell it for +12%-14% more than wholesale, so their estimated retail prices could range from $31,600 to $36,800.

For a 2002 Audi A4 3.0L Quattro with 115,000 miles, prices range from $9,100 (being in above average condition) to $7,550 (being in average condition) and $6,000 (being in below average condition). Keep in mind that the numbers above are the wholesale prices. That’s what you should expect to get if you trade in your car. If you private sell it you should be able to get 5%-10% over the wholesale prices. Good Luck and let us know if you have any other question.
