How Much Should I Pay: 2008 Subaru Outback & How Much Should I Sell: 2000 Volkswagen GTI

December 23rd, 2008

Question From Ron: How much should I pay for a 2008 Subaru Outback 2.5i Limited and how much receive for my 2000 VW GTI VR6 with 100K but every option and very good shape. Thanks!!! How much for the same 2009 Subaru?

Queen of the Road: Hi Ron. Welcome to AutoBragBlog!

This is what we currently carry for the 2008:

2.5I 4dr Wagon AWD (2.5L 4cyl 4A)
3.0 R L.L. Bean Edition 4dr Wagon AWD w/VDC (3.0L 6cyl 5A)

And this is what we have for the 2009:

2.5i 4dr Wagon AWD (2.5L 4cyl 4A)
2.5i Special Edition 4dr Wagon AWD (2.5L 4cyl 4A)
3.0R Limited 4dr Wagon AWD (3.0L 6cyl 5A)

Just leave your choices in the reply/comment box and I’ll get started on looking up Subaru deals.

For a 2000 Volkswagen GTI Hatchback VR6 with 100,000 miles, wholesale prices range from $4,900 (being in above average condition) to $3,400 (being in average condition) and $1,900 (being in below average condition).

A dealership will usually pitch you a low estimate, then turn around and sell it for +12%-14% more than wholesale, so their estimated retail prices could range from $2,500 to $5,700. A private seller will usually aim to sell it for 5%-10%.

How Much Should I Sell: 2000 Ford F250 (Updated)

August 27th, 2008

This Is An Update To A Previous Question

Question From Eric: I have a 2000 Ford F-250 SuperDuty Lariat CrewCab with the 7.3 Diesel. The truck is in Good shape with regular wear and tear from use. It has 286000 miles on it. It has tan leather interior with a 3 in. rip in the back seat. It is a 4×4 with sports and towing package. Color is Green/Tan. Tires are New as are rotors and break pads changed alternator 1 yr ago. Trying to determine what to sell it for. And what the best avenue for selling it might be. The truck is 4WD and 8 cylinder Diesel 7.3 L

thanks,

Eric

Queen of the Road: Hi Eric. Your truck is 8 years old with 286k miles. So the wholesale prices are quite low. Although, private seller usually mark up 5% - 10% from wholesale.

For a 2000 Ford F250 Pickup 2WD V8 Crew Cab 7.3L TDSL Lariat with 286,000 miles, prices range from $3,900 (being in above average condition) to $2,400 (being in average condition) and $1,000 (being in below average condition). Keep in mind that the numbers above are the wholesale prices. A dealership will usually aim to sell it for +12%-14% more than wholesale, so their estimated retail prices could range from $1,800 to $4,900.

Try posting ads online. Craigslist and AutoTrader are good starts. Be sure to give plenty of pictures and details about your car. Goodluck!

How Much Should I Sell For: 2000 Infiniti QX4 & 2006 MazdaSpeed6 & How Much Should I Pay: 2007 Saturn Outlook

March 26th, 2008

Question: Forgive me if you’ve already answered this question, but if you don’t suggest trading your car in, what do you suggest doing with it? Private sale is an option, but it is generally unreliable (sofar as timing is concerned). I didn’t know if there was some better way to go…

As for cars:

Trade-In (or Sale)
2000.5 Infiniti QX4
Auto 4WD
(Don’t think there was too many other variations on this)
95k

2006 Mazdaspeed6 GT
w/Nav, Leather, AWD (std.), 6sp (std.)
35K

Buy
2007 Saturn Outlook XR
Auto AWD
Leather, no Nav

Thank you very much in Advance!

MuscleCarGuy: I don’t suggest trading your car in, because dealers will try to pay as low as possible on them and will sell it for a higher profit. Of course sometimes it is just easier and faster to trade it in, but that will have a huge affect in your pocket. If you don’t have the time of course your only option is to trade it in.

For a 2000 Infiniti QX4 4WD V6 with 95,000 miles, prices range from $8,900 (being in above average condition) to $8,075 (being in average condition) and $7,225 (being in below average condition).

For a 2006 MazdaSpeed6 Grand Touring AWD with 35,000 miles, prices range from $19,150 (being in above average condition) to $17,250 (being in average condition) and $15,400 (being in below average condition).

For a 2007 Saturn Outlook AWD V6 XR with 7,700 miles (Average), prices range from $34,200 (being in above average condition) to $30,800 (being in average condition) and $27,500 (being in below average condition).

Keep in mind that the numbers above are the wholesale prices. That is what you should expect to get when you trade in your car. A dealership will usually aim to sell it for +12%-14% more than wholesale.

Be sure to do plenty of research on the car you do decide to pursue. Don’t hesitate to bring a trusted mechanic with you. Let us know if you have any further questions. Good Luck!!!

How Much Should I Sell: 2000 Chevy Corvette

March 9th, 2008

Question from Hank: How much should I expect to get for my 2000 Corvette C5 (coupe, 6 speed, 48k) & how much should I pay for a new ‘08 C6 coupe, 6 speed ???

Queen of the Road: Hi, Hank! For a 2000 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe 6SP with 48,000 miles, wholesale prices range from $20,600 (being in above average condition) to $18,300 (being in average condition) and $16,000 (being in below average condition).

For the 08 Corvette, the only three options we carry are the Convertible (6.2L 8cyl 6A), Hatchback (6.2L 8cyl 6A) and the Z06 2dr Hatchback (7.0L 8cyl 6M). Pick one.

How Much Should I Sell For: 2000 Land Rover Discovery

January 14th, 2008

Question: I hope you guys can give me some insight here..

Looking to sell:

2000 Land Rover Discovery LE 4×4
93,000 Miles
suv has most all options
Los Angeles area

Heres the hitch:
It’s my fiancee’s car. As of yesterday the car is not running and is now sitting at the mechanic’s. The short story is that it needs $3000 worth of work done. The car overheated about a block from the mechanic’s, so she drove it there to get checked out. Fiance said something about them removing gaskets to get re-filed and something about a firewall - looks like I need to get the specifics from the mechanic!

Considering the low market value of this car (even lower with the mechanical issue,) what should I do with this car? Anyone been in this position before?

She wants to trade it towards a new or newer Prius from a dealership. I told her I could probably do better selling it on craigslist or selling it for parts. Please help!!

Thanks Guys!

MuscleCarGuy: For a 2000 Land Rover Discovery with 93,000 miles, prices range from $5,850 (being in above average condition) to $4,750 (being in average condition) and $3,675 (being in average condition). These are all wholesale prices, and it is what you should expect to get when you trade in your car.

First of all, you should go to a different mechanic to have a second opinion for the problems that you have on the vehicle. If the estimate from the second mechanic is the same as the one from the first estimate, than you know that the price you have been quoted is accurate.

If you have time to sell it for parts, which would probably be the best option. However, that will take time and you will have an SUV sitting on your garage for a while.

It will be easier to try selling it as is. That is a nice car for small mechanics that put time to buy cars with problems to fix and sell. Good Luck!!!
