October 23rd, 2008

Question From Gabe: I’m looking to trade in my 2006 F-150 extended cab 4×4. It’s an xlt with 37000 miles. What can I expect. I live in Chicago if that matters.
Thanks Gabe

Follow Up Comment: The truck is an EXT cab.
Thanks
gabe

Queen of the Road: Hi Gabe! For a 2006 Ford F150 4WD V8 Ext Cab 5.4L XLT with 37,000 miles, wholesale prices range from $13,700 (being in above average condition) to $12,100 (being in average condition) and $10,600 (being in below average condition).

Keep in mind that the numbers above are the wholesale prices. A dealership will usually aim to sell it for +12%-14% more than wholesale, so their estimated retail prices could range from $12k to $15.4k.

Question: Hi, I’m hoping you can give tell my what I should get for my car and not get seriously lowballed.

I’m looking to trade my 2006 Lexus RX400h hybrid AWD to a dealer. Car is loaded with all possible options, pristine in and out, silver int/black ext, 38.5k miles.

Thanks a million!

Queen of the Road: OK. I can provide you with wholesale prices, but what you will be offered for trade in may not be anywhere close to the range I ‘ll give you. I always recommend our readers to make an effort to sell privately because the results always save you money in comparison to trading in.

Once a dealer flips it, they’ll mark it up +12%-14% more than wholesale. So, a dealership’s estimated retail prices could range from $33.9k to $37.7k. Goodluck and let us know how everything goes. Don’t forget to tell your friends about our free service.

How Much Should I Sell: 2006 Mazda3 S (Updated)

June 9th, 2008

This Is An Update To A Previous Question

Follow Up Comment: Sold this evening at $12,900…I did not want to pay $200 in taxes next week and another $300 for insurance next month. Besides it needs tires soon, I figured that into the price.
The guy bought it for his stepson and drives a 2008 Corolla. While he was driving it, he said he might keep the Mazda for himself and give the Corolla to his stepson. The car does need tires, but I figured if I replaced them before selling, I wouldn’t be able to recoup that money, it would’ve been around $600. Even though times are tough, I think small economical cars will sell good because that’s what people want now.

Thanks for your advise. Good thing I turned down Carmax…I would have just kept it rather than take a loss. Take care.

$11,500? Wow, Carmax went real low. They never cease to amaze me. I recommend that you post your car online, Craigslist and AutoTrader. Take plenty of pictures of the car. Pull out all those maintenance records, get the car washed, etc.

How Much Should I Sell For: 2000 Infiniti QX4 & 2006 MazdaSpeed6 & How Much Should I Pay: 2007 Saturn Outlook

March 26th, 2008

Question: Forgive me if you’ve already answered this question, but if you don’t suggest trading your car in, what do you suggest doing with it? Private sale is an option, but it is generally unreliable (sofar as timing is concerned). I didn’t know if there was some better way to go…

As for cars:

Trade-In (or Sale)
2000.5 Infiniti QX4
Auto 4WD
(Don’t think there was too many other variations on this)
95k

2006 Mazdaspeed6 GT
w/Nav, Leather, AWD (std.), 6sp (std.)
35K

Buy
2007 Saturn Outlook XR
Auto AWD
Leather, no Nav

Thank you very much in Advance!

MuscleCarGuy: I don’t suggest trading your car in, because dealers will try to pay as low as possible on them and will sell it for a higher profit. Of course sometimes it is just easier and faster to trade it in, but that will have a huge affect in your pocket. If you don’t have the time of course your only option is to trade it in.

For a 2000 Infiniti QX4 4WD V6 with 95,000 miles, prices range from $8,900 (being in above average condition) to $8,075 (being in average condition) and $7,225 (being in below average condition).

For a 2006 MazdaSpeed6 Grand Touring AWD with 35,000 miles, prices range from $19,150 (being in above average condition) to $17,250 (being in average condition) and $15,400 (being in below average condition).

For a 2007 Saturn Outlook AWD V6 XR with 7,700 miles (Average), prices range from $34,200 (being in above average condition) to $30,800 (being in average condition) and $27,500 (being in below average condition).

Keep in mind that the numbers above are the wholesale prices. That is what you should expect to get when you trade in your car. A dealership will usually aim to sell it for +12%-14% more than wholesale.

Be sure to do plenty of research on the car you do decide to pursue. Don’t hesitate to bring a trusted mechanic with you. Let us know if you have any further questions. Good Luck!!!
