BUSTED: Someone Riding In Your Trunk

October 22nd, 2008

From Seattle’s Police Blog: Let’s say you are on your way back from Canada. You decide: Heck, let’s put Jane in the trunk and slip her through the border crossing at Blaine. Bad idea. Very expensive idea.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection said its officers discovered a 20-year-old woman in the trunk of 2004 Honda Civic on Sunday. After officers opened the trunk, they put the woman and the driver in handcuffs. It gets worse…

Hollywood Attempting To Go Green

July 31st, 2008

Five celebrities are awaiting the arrival of their brand new hydrogen fueled Honda FCX Clarity. Jamie Lee Curtis and husband Christopher Guest, Jim Salomon, Laura Harris, Jon Spallino, and Ron Yerxa will soon be emitting only water out of their new rides instead of fogging up the air with pollution. When these celebrities are not traveling to their many destinations by airplane, they are concerned about their carbon footprint.

PETA Sells a Viper for Profit

June 27th, 2008

Just this last weekend, Pamela Anderson stopped by Las Vegas to auction off her 2000 Dodge Viper. All the proceeds went to PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) who she’s been working with for 15 years. Anderson told The Associated Press that she “sees actual results.” This is that same comment made to her latest plastic surgeon.

Anderson also claims to be a terrible driver and that the Viper was too much power for her. Very few people have actually seen Anderson get behind the wheel of her Viper and seems to be a small sacrifice on her part.  However, she may have made up for it in her earlier private estate sale where all profit went to PETA as well.

Being Safe Or Acting Crazed?

Celebrity Tom Cruise has become so concerned for the safety of his wife, hottie Katie Holmes, and his three children that he has added bombproof features to all of his vehicles. His vehicles have also been fitted with bulletproof windows. Each one of his drivers have been trained in self defense. Cruise was able to miss out on the training because of his role in Mission Impossible which left him undefeatable.

It appears as though someone has forgot to mention to Cruise that he’s only an actor. What happens in his action movies does not occur in real life. As long as our A-list celebrities are as protected as our military, the brains behind our nation will be kept safe.

No Chauffer In This Fancy Ride

June 26th, 2008

These days with the money celebrities make, wouldn’t it make sense to hire a personal driver? Many bodyguards and others on the “inside” tell sources that if the celebrities can afford the vehicles, they prefer to drive them themselves. Much dismay to anyone concerned with their own personal safety, celebrities love to look as snobby as possible when driving their $200,000 vehicle.

Achieving high goals like a driver’s license is a big deal to many celebrities. Gloria Estefan, when receiving hers, threw a party in her own honor. Many friends and family members attended.

Honda’s Zero Emission Car

June 21st, 2008

Behold!!  The Honda FCX Clarity

Honda Motors Co. has started production of a car that runs on hydrogen fuel rather than oil, marking the first time a commercial vehicle will produce zero emissions. The FCX Clarity, which was introduced two years ago as a concept car at the Tokyo Motor Show, runs on electricity made from an onboard hydrogen-powered fuel cell battery. It will be available in July as part of limited lease program offered in California.

A Sure Surprise: Another Celebrity Car Crash

June 15th, 2008

Marcia Cross, Bree on hit TV show “Desperate Housewives,” collided with a silver Sedan just this past Wednesday. Driving her Lexus RX, it appears to have minimal damage. However, the silver Sedan shows significant front-end damage. Both cars were removed from the scene by tow truck.

Here we have another over paid celeb living life above the law. Hows this possible? Oh, no police report was filed. Thankfully, Cross’s twins were not in the vehicle at the time of the accident. Sounds like Cross saves the drama for behind the set and may have been driving responsibly, unlike many of her Hollywood peers. It is undecided which driver is the cause of the accident and no further action has been taken other than a simple swap of insurance details.

The 300 MPG… uhh… Car

June 14th, 2008

The long-range fuel efficiency of the hybrid model of 130 mpg at 55 mph (0.8 L/100 km at 90 km/h) would make it one of the most fuel-efficient cars in the world. A higher figure of just over 300 mpg is used for shorter (100 mile) trips, where the pre-charged batteries are able to run the hybrid vehicle for approximately the first 60 miles. The price is US$26 900 for the all-electric “Aptera Local” and US$29 900 for the plug-in hybrid “Aptera Everywhere“. For more photos.

Neurosurgeon Studies Results of V-8

June 6th, 2008

Women all flock to Patrick Dempsey and the men are into his Panoz Esperante GT. The auto-fan and racing fanatic chose right when he picked up his new ride. With a 4.6L V-8 engine, this hand crafted vehicle is incomparable to many others.

This amazing car is able to go from 0 to 62 mph in 4.9 seconds. I imagine Dempsey takes advantage of this when his wife and three children are causing too much trouble at home. It averages 25 highway mpg, not that Dempsey has any trouble with the soaring gas prices.

Britney’s Next Addiction: Speed

June 3rd, 2008

Britney Spears looks pretty sleek in her white Mercedes convertible, even if she competant to steer and hit the gas at the same time. We all watched her MTV performance and that was nothing short of a car crash.

Her particular choice of poison is a SL65 AMG, valued at $200,000. Dont worry, its a drop in the bucket when its estimated her monthly income is $800,000. The rest of her money pays for extensive rehab and Federline support,

This particular Mercedes has 605 horsepower and is capable of reaching 60 mph in only 4 seconds. Just what Hollywood needed, another bimbo behind the wheel of a sports car.

100 Years Ago The Middle East Struck Oil

May 29th, 2008

May 26, 1908: A British company strikes oil in Persia (now Iran). It’s the first big petroleum find in the Middle East, and it sets off a wave of exploration, extraction and exploitation that will change the region’s and the world’s history.

100 years ago, the smell of sulfur hovered in the air at Masjid-i-Suleiman. At 4 in the morning, the drill reached 1,180 feet below the desert and struck oil. A huge gusher shot 75 feet into the air. At the instigation of First Lord of the Admiralty Winston Churchill, the British government became a majority (and at-first secret) shareholder of Anglo-Persian during World War I. Britain soon became a dominant power in Persian and later Iranian politics.

200+ Miles Per Gallon?

May 14th, 2008

VW plans to release super-efficient vehicle in 2010

That’s right – 2010. Motor Authority reported late last year that Volkswagen CEO Martin Winterkorn confirmed that the VW L1 could potentially hit the market in 2010. Fuel consumption is reported to be around 1L/100km, which translates into 235 miles per gallon

The 0.3L one-cylinder engine would reach a top speed of 75 mph according to EcoGeek. A highway vehicle that gets over 200 mpg? This sounds too good to be true. The obvious drawback to this vehicle is styling. Another interesting thing to note: this two-seater is different than most because the passenger sits behind the driver.

What’s The Difference Between AutoBrag and Kelley Blue Book

April 29th, 2008

We’ve received a comment from a reader asking why some people couldn’t just find prices from KBB.

“Isn’t it possible to find that out using KBB?”

That’s a very good question! Glad you asked. Listed below are the distinct differences between AutoBrag and Kelley Blue Book.

NEW CAR PRICES

KBB’s new car prices are estimated prices that other people have paid. Besides listing the MSRP and and Invoice, where are the prices that a dealership will quote you? Sure, they have prices that people are really paying for a car, but are those prices even considered deals? I guess you can figure that out by getting a quote from KBB, right?

The Most Desirable Car Features

April 18th, 2008

What Features Do Americans Want Most?

1. Rollover Control and Protection – Rollover control and protection uses a side airbag system with enhanced electronics to keep airbags inflated while a rollover happens

2. HID/Xenon Headlamps – Instead of burning a filament like a traditional light bulb, high-intensity discharge (HID) headlights use Xenon gas that burns brighter and provides better visibility than standard halogen bulbs.

3. Self-Repairing Paint – Some of the latest models fight blemishes with self-healing paint, which can repair minor scratches in a few days without the need for a touch-up — the scratch actually closes on its own.

Design-It-Yourself Logos For Scion Owners

March 28th, 2008

A Personalized Crest Just For You

Toyota likes to think of its quirky, boxy Scion as a unique expression of the young, hip person who Toyota hopes is driving it. Toyota will let Scion owners design their own personal “coat of arms” online, a piece of owner-generated art.

In making their personalized crests, Scion owners can choose from among hundreds of symbols, all designed by a professional graffiti artist. The symbols range from an eagle, a jester, a king’s crown and a worker’s fist to Japanese anime-style flowers, a three-person family and a yin-yang circle. Customers can download their designs and have them made into window decals or take them to an auto airbrushing shop to have them professionally painted onto their cars.

The Weirdest Car Names

March 13th, 2008

When It Comes To Naming Car Models, Who Takes The Cake?

Japan! The best part of this research, however, was the process of combing through the names of cars sold in Japan with odd English titles…  Daihatsu Motor Naked; Honda Life Dunk and That’s; Isuzu GIGA 20 Light Dump and Mysterious Utility; Mazda Motor Bongo; Mitsubishi Delica Space Gear and Pistachio; Nissan Fairlady Z and Prairie Joy; Rickman Space Ranger; Rinspeed X-Dream; Suzuki Cappucino; Toyota Motor Deliboy and Toyopet; Volkswagen Thing and Volugrafo Bimbo.
