How Much Should I Pay: 2008 Nissan Xterra

December 1st, 2008

Question From Howard: What is a good price to purchase a used 2008 Nissan Xterra X 2W/D with 24000 miles. The truck has had some body damage on the drivers door and front quarter panel. The damage has been repaired and there doesn’t appear to be any compromise to the rest of the vehicle. It is my understanding it was a rental and was purchased at Auction. The dealer is asking 13500. I think it is a little high.

MuscleCarGuy: Hi Howard. Welcome to AutoBragBlog, where we do all the car price researching for you.

For a 2008 Nissan Xterra X 2WD with 24,000 miles (Average), prices range from $13,000 (being in above average condition) to $12,400 (being in average condition) and $11,800 (being in below average condition). Keep in mind that the numbers above are the wholesale prices. A dealership will usually aim to sell it for +12%-14% more than wholesale, so their estimated retail prices could range from $13,200 to $14,800. Private seller should range around +5%-10% above wholesale prices.

The $13,500 that the dealers is asking for this Xterra is not bad, however you should always try to negotiate a little more. You should try to negotiate for under $13,000. Good luck and keep us posted on how the purchase goes! Don’t forget to tell your friends and family about our free personal service.

What you can do when you see a particular model is to compare MSRP with the MSRP deals in www.AutoBrag.com. Or you can simply run it by us and well look to find a deal in comparison to that model. You can also calculate the percentage off MSRP to see if you’re getting a good deal.

How To Calculate The % Off MSRP: MSRP - Invoice Price = X / MSRP = Y (move the decimal point over two and that’s the percentage you’re saving. Compare the savings to AutoBrag’s 2009 Camry discount percentages…

If you’d like to use one of the deals above…

How do I use these deals at my local dealerships? Print out all the blue links above and take them to your local dealerships. But before you go, we highly recommend you call and make an appointment to see the Internet Fleet Manager because he/she should know exactly what you’re talking about. Avoid the floor salesmen or any Sales Rep., head straight to the Internet Sales Manager.

If they don’t believe your prices, ask to use one of their computers so they can see where these figures came from. It’ll be impossible for them to doubt you because you’re pulling up dealership’s website and checking their inventory. It may take a few tries before a dealership agrees to honor the deal.

The effort is certainly worth it. Saving an extra thousand(s) really pays off at a time like this. Remember, cars are a commodity so these prices apply everywhere in the U.S. Here’s a good car buying article I recommmend everyone read before completing the car buying process. Best of luck and keep us posted on how the purchase goes!

Follow Up Comment: WOW Thank you for your help!

I can’t believe you’re helping the likes of me when there are so many of us asking for help. I can’t imagine how you can afford the time and effort, but i’m sure i speak for most of us - we are grateful.

Thank you,

Sincerely

How Much Should I Pay: 2008 Nissan Altima

October 14th, 2008

Question From Eric: I am looking to buy an 08 altima coupe since i can more discount than with an 09. the one i am being quoted for is a 2.5s automatic with no added packages. so its just a base model well it does have kick plates and the mats. the msrp on the car is $22,405 and the invoice is $21,000 (and some change). the best quote i have so far is for $19850 + ttl and free tint. is this a fair, good, excellent price considering it’s an 08 model and just a few are left on the dealers in my area. plus i will not get the red i wanted have to settle for one of the other colors. is it possible to get the spoiler added for no more than $20,000 +ttl. thanks a lot

Queen of the Road: Hi Eric. I believe you can get a better deal than an invoice of $21,000. I compared MSRPs to one of our deals that matches up to an invoice of $21,000 and it ranked as a Thumbs Down deal. You can get a way better price!

For a 2008 Nissan Altima 2.5 S 2dr Coupe (2.5L 4cyl CVT),

MSRP: $22,484.00
ePrice: $20,999.00
Savings: $1,485.00
% OFF MSRP: 6.60%
Boo!

Here’s an idea of the Largest Percentage Off MSRP Price for that same car: $24,999.00
MSRP Price: $28,797.00
ePrice: $24,999.00
Savings: $3,798.00
% OFF MSRP: 13.19%

So keep in mind that you can push the invoice down to $20,000. At $20,000, the % off MSRP will be 10.7%. I would go as far as to ask for lower. Doesn’t hurt to try!

What are all these blue links for? The first blue link breaks down the numbers so that you don’t have to do any math or researching. You’ll see exactly how much money you’re saving if you pay the “Internet Price”. It also lists the National Average Discount, the National Maximum Discount and the National Average Price for each vehicle. We also provide our personal opinion to whether we think the deal is good or not.

If we approve the deal, we’ll show a thumbs up and “Bring Your Checkbook“.

If we think the deal is ok, we’ll show a thumb tilted sideways and “Fair Market“.

If we disapprove the deal, we’ll show a thumbs down and “Keep Shopping“.

The second blue link is the proof you’ll need when you step foot onto the dealership. Don’t leave home without it! It’s the page that shows the price which you’ll be asking for. It’s basically what you need to pull up on their computers if they don’t believe you found that price online form that dealer’s inventory.

AutoBrag Deal Of The Day: 2008 Nissan Sentra

September 19th, 2008

This is our 142nd AutoBrag Deal Of The Day.  What we’ve done is searched through www.autobrag.com and discovered certain vehicles being sold for considerably less than market prices.  Usually, the dealerships are using these “loss leaders” as a way to gain more business.

We found a 2008 Nissan Sentra 2.0 4dr Sedan (2.0L 4cyl CVT) from Antwerpen Security Nissan

The lowest Internet Price: $14,077.00
MSRP: $19,425.00
ePrice: $14,077.00
Savings: $5,348.00
% OFF MSRP: 27.53 %

Why Is This The AutoBrag Deal Of The Day:

The average wholesale price for a used 2007 Nissan Sentra S with 29,461 miles (average) is $11,400.00. If you were to buy this new car at sticker price of $19,425.00, after one year, your depreciation would be roughly 41.31% of the vehicle’s value or $8,025.00 over the 12 months or $668.75 per month. That does not even include the money you lose on sales tax and registration!

If you were to buy this specific 2008 Nissan Sentra S for $14,077.00, you would be able to drive it for one year and trade it in or sell it at wholesale market for $11,400.00. That means that you would drive a new car for one year and pay $2,677.00 or $223.08 per month (not including taxes and fees). The depreciation for the period of one year would be 19.02%.

If the car was sold via private party the price would be about 5%-10% higher than wholesale. That means that you probably would sell this car for about $11,970.00 (5% over wholesale) to $12,540.00 (10% over wholesale). That means that you would drive a new car for one year and pay $2,107.00 to $1,537.00 or per month that would be $175.58 to $128.08 (not including taxes and fees).

Using AutoBrag’s Deal Of The Day, the Dealer eats 66.64% of year one’s depreciation based on wholesale market for the same vehicle.

For disclosure purposes WE DO NOT receive compensation from Antwerpen Security Nissan; we are just trying to save car consumers time and money.

How Much Should I Pay: 2008 & 2009 Nissan Frontier (Updated)

Question From Jill: I have a dealer searching for an 08 Frontier LE 4×4 with leather and the LE audio package which the closest dealer with the options I want is in Lakewood, CO and I am in Gretna, NE. I have asked them go give me a price to bring this car in to me in Omaha. The other option is to wait until the 09’s come out but shouldnt they be able to give me a better deal on the 08 over the 09 and should I insist on them trailering it in? They want to just have the salesman drive it in from Colorado which will put a lot miles on it and I am not thrilled with that idea. What would you suggest? The other thing is that to get the options I want I have to get leather and I really do not want leather but the dealer said they could take the leather seats out and put in the cloth ones that normally come in the LE. Do you see any potential issues with them doing this?

Queen of the Road: Hi Jill! You’re absolutely right. The 2008s should be offered at much better prices because dealerships are trying to clear the lot in order to stock it with 2009s. Are there Nissan dealerships in your area? If you put in a request, the dealership can order you one. That way, you don’t have to deal with out of state transactions.

In terms of price matching, the purpose of AutoBragBlog is to attach people with great deals from around the country and to apply it in their hometown’s dealership.

I’m also not a big fan of leather. I don’t see any problems with having them switch leather car seats to cloth ones. It’s not uncommon. Regarding the transportation of the vehicle, you have an option to pay to have it trailered to you. But this could all be avoided if you work with a dealership closer to you.

It looks like our last ‘08 deal was just taken. It was pretty good too. See if the dealers you’re working with car match this

Is there another trim that you’re curious about? SE or Nismo? We have plenty of deals for those. Have you considered the Titan? I had one of those and was very satisfied with it. All the Titan owners I know are also very content.

For the 2009s, so far we’ve got SEs.

CarFinance Guru: I would not recommend going “after market” and having the dealer swap out the leather seats for cloth seats.  Usually, people pay extra to have leather put in.  If cloth is your preference then perhaps you can custom order your vehicle direct from the manufacturer.  What specific features of the LE do you want?

Instead of having the salesman drive your car from Colorado to Nebraska you should ask the dealer in Colorado to knock another $500 bucks off so you can fly in and drive the car back yourself.  If you don’t want to do that then make them ship the car to you.  What is the exact vehicle you are looking for?
