AutoBrag Deal Of The Day: 2008 Nissan Altima

August 13th, 2008

This is our 121st AutoBrag Deal Of The Day. What we’ve done is searched through www.autobrag.com and discovered certain vehicles being sold for considerably less than market prices.  Usually, the dealerships are using these “loss leaders” as a way to gain more business.

We found a 2008 Nissan Altima 2.5 S 4dr Sedan (2.5L 4cyl 6M) from Passport Nissan of Alexandria

The lowest Internet Price: $16,689.00
MSRP: $21,325.00
ePrice: $16,689.00
Savings: $4,636.00
% OFF MSRP: 21.74 %

Why Is This The AutoBrag Deal Of The Day:

The average wholesale price for a used 2007 Nissan Altima 2.5 S Sedan with 23,955 miles (average) is $15,500.00. If you were to buy this new car at sticker price of $21,325.00, after one year, your depreciation would be roughly 27.32% of the vehicle’s value or $5,825.00 over the 12 months or $485.42 per month. That does not even include the money you lose on sales tax and registration!

If you were to buy this specific 2008 Nissan Altima 2.5 S Sedan for $16,689.00, you would be able to drive it for one year and trade it in or sell it at wholesale market for $15,500.00. That means that you would drive a new car for one year and pay $1,189.00 or $99.08 per month (not including taxes and fees). The depreciation for the period of one year would be 7.12%.

If the car was sold via private party the price would be about 5%-10% higher than wholesale. That means that you probably would sell this car for about $16,275.00 (5% over wholesale) to $17,050.00 (10% over wholesale). That means that you would drive a new car for one year and pay $414.00 to a profit off $361.00 or per month that would be $34.50 to a profit off $30.08 (not including taxes and fees).

Using AutoBrag’s Deal Of The Day, the Dealer eats 79.59% of year one’s depreciation based on wholesale market for the same vehicle.

For disclosure purposes WE DO NOT receive compensation from Passport Nissan of Alexandria; we are just trying to save car consumers time and money.

How Much Should I Pay: 2002 Nissan Altima SL (Updated)

August 6th, 2008

This Is An Update To A Previous Question

Follow Up Comment: Thank you very much for your prompt reply..The dealer is asking me for 880 and totally on road would be 9800..I am in a fix whether to take this deal or not..I have one more question..How much this resale price this car will be having after 2 years after adding 20000 miles to it..

Queen of the Road: I’m assuming that “880″ is actually “8,800″. If it’s in great condition, then $8,800 sounds fair. $7.5k to $8k would be a good deal if the car is in average condition. If that’s the case, offer $7.5 just to get it to $8.

After DMV fees, dealer fees and sales tax, expect about $1k added on. It’s hard to determine what the car will sell for in 2010, but it shouldn’t be a problem because people generally try to avoid buying cars older than a decade and by then, it’s only 2 years young of a decade.

How Much Should I Pay: 2002 Nissan Altima SL

Question From Phani:

year:2002
Make:Nissan
Model:Altima
Trim: SL
Mileage : 99393
Leather interior,power setas,sun roof

Can anybody please advise me for how much I can buy the car and any idea about depreciation

Queen of the Road: Hi Phani. There’s a whole team of us who can help you here. Below is the the wholesale prices based on the car’s condition.

For a 2002 Nissan Altima SL with 99,400 miles, prices range from $8,000 (being in above average condition) to $6,500 (being in average condition) and $5,000 (being in below average condition). Keep in mind that the numbers above are the wholesale prices. A dealership will usually aim to sell it for +12%-14% more than wholesale, so their estimated retail prices could range from $5.8k to $9.1k.

In regards to depreciation, the first year of a car’s life, the average depreciation is 20%. After that, it averages 10% to 15%. Here’s a Car Depreciation Calculator, but you’d need the purchase price of the car.

Are you buying from a dealership or a private seller? Be sure to check carfax and do plenty of research on the history of the vehicle. Ask for their maintenance records. You can even bring a mechanic for a brief inspection. Good luck and keep us posted on how the purchase goes!

Since you’re new here, I’ll explain how to apply these prices…

What are all these blue links for? The first blue link breaks down the numbers so that you don’t have to do any math or researching. You’ll see exactly how much money you’re saving if you pay the “Internet Price”. It also lists the National Average Discount, the National Maximum Discount and the National Average Price for each vehicle. We also provide our personal opinion to whether we think the deal is good or not.

If we approve the deal, we’ll show a thumbs up and “Bring Your Checkbook“.

If we think the deal is ok, we’ll show a thumb tilted sideways and “Fair Market“.

If we disapprove the deal, we’ll show a thumbs down and “Keep Shopping“.

The second blue link is the proof you’ll need when you step foot onto the dealership. Don’t leave home without it! It’s the page that shows the price which you’ll be asking for. It’s basically what you need to pull up on their computers if they don’t believe you found that price online form that dealer’s inventory.

So now what? Print out all the blue links above and take them to your local dealerships. But before you go, we highly recommend you call and make an appointment to see the Internet Fleet Manager because he/she should know exactly what you’re talking about. Avoid the floor salesmen, head straight to the Internet Sales Manager.

If they don’t believe your prices, ask to use one of their computers so they can see where these figures came from. It’ll be impossible for them to doubt you because you’re pulling up a dealership’s website and checking their inventory. Remember, cars are a commodity so these prices apply everywhere in the U.S. If you want to research more new car prices, poke around on www.autobrag.com. Keep us posted with how everything goes.

Let us know if you or your friends/family need any advice or have any further questions. Goodluck, Jason!

How Much Should I Pay: 2008 Nissan Altima (Updated)

July 9th, 2008

Question From Carsen: How much should I pay for a used 2008 Nissan Altima 2.5 S. It has 14,000 miles and is in good condition (would not say excellent). The dealer is saying they have had the car for almost 90 days and will be selling it at auction soon. I am at $16,400 right now.

Thank you.

MuscleCarGuy: Hi Carsen. Welcome to AutoBragBlog, where we do all the car price researching for you.

To best help you with the right price you should pay for that 2008 Nissan Altima I will need more information on it. It is a Sedan or Coupe?

Please respond in the reply/comment box to ensure a faster response.

Follow Up Comment: I knew I left out a detail, and I double checked to avoid that.

It is a Sedan.

MuscleCarGuy: Hi Carsen.

For a 2008 Nissan Altima 2.5S Sedan with 14,000 miles, prices range from $17,650 (being in above average condition) to $17,000 (being in average condition) and $16,300 (being in below average condition). Keep in mind that the numbers above are the wholesale prices. A dealership will usually aim to sell it for +12%-14% more than wholesale, so their estimated retail prices could range from $18,200 to $20,000.

With the wholesale prices for a used 2008 Nissan Altima, you are getting a good deal on that car. The dealer will probably get close to $16,000 if they sell it in a auction, but if they sell it for you they don’t need to worry about transporting the car to auction an all the work involved on the process, plus they will probably make some money on the finance, if you finance the car with them.

I checked some No-Haggle prices for a new 2008 Nissan Altima for you to have an idea how much some dealers are selling the same car for.

For a 2008 Nissan Altima 2.5 S 4dr Sedan (2.5L 4cyl CVT),

The Biggest Percentage Off MSRP Price: $17,598.00
MSRP: $21,550.00
ePrice: $17,598.00

% OFF MSRP: 18.34 %

2nd Biggest Percentage Off MSRP Price: $20,419.00
MSRP: $23,975.00
ePrice: $20,419.00
Savings: $3,556.00
% OFF MSRP: 14.83 %

How do you apply these prices?

Print out all the blue links and take them to your local Nissan dealerships. It’ll be impossible for them to doubt you because you’re pulling up a Nissan dealership’s website and checking their inventory. Remember, cars are a commodity so these prices apply everywhere in the U.S. This car in New York should cost the same in Texas. The taxes vary by state.
