How Much Should I Pay: 1999 Toyota Camry (Updated)

November 25th, 2008

Question From Mike: how much should i pay for 1999 camry le with 45,000 miles. fully loaded, alloy wheels/premium wheels, leather interior all power, etc.

Queen of the Road: Hi Mike. For a 1999 Toyota Camry V6 Sedan LE with 45,000 miles, wholesale prices range from $5,100 (being in above average condition) to $4,300 (being in average condition) and $3,500 (being in below average condition). A dealership will usually aim to sell it for +12%-14% more than wholesale, so their estimated retail prices could range from $4,100 to $5,900. A private seller will usually aim to sell it for 5%-10%.

What was the offer? Check carfax and do plenty of research on the history of the vehicle. Ask for their maintenance records. You can even bring a mechanic for a brief inspection. Here’s a good car buying article I recommmend everyone read before completing the car buying process.  Best of luck and keep us posted on how the purchase goes! How Much Should I Pay: 1993 Ford F150

Question From Debra:  How much is a very clean, very low mileage (35,000 miles) 1993 Ford 1/2 ton F150 with at tow package worth?

Follow Up Comment: Thanks for the reply and here are my responses - 2WD, Reg Cab, XLT with the trailer package and a perfectly clean interior. Thanks! it’s a V8. Anyway, the pickup is a 5.8L and did I already mention that it came with a towing package?  Thanks for your patience though I’m sure you have gobs on your plate to keep you busy!  Debra

Queen of the Road: Hi Debra. Since the car is older than a decade, the wholesale prices for that car are quite low. The older, the more depreciation.

How Much Should I Pay: 1993 Infiniti G20

November 10th, 2008

Question From Lauren:  93 Infiniti G20
4 door
5 speed
170,000 miles.
leather interior
sun roof

they are asking 2,695 for it….
is that a good deal?

Queen of the Road:  Hello Lauren. Welcome to AutoBragBlog! You’ve come to the right place for Infiniti wholesale prices. Let’s see what we’ve got here for you today.

Are you sure you want to purchase a car older than 10 years? I have a rule that any car older than a decade. They’re extremely difficult to resell after you’re done with it and the potential for car problems are inevitable. This car also has high mileage. I wouldn’t recommend you to buy this car, especially since the price is so high compared to wholesale prices.

For a 1993 Infiniti G20 with 170000 miles, wholesale prices range from $1,100 (being in above average condition) to $650 (being in average condition) and $200 (being in below average condition).

A dealership will usually aim to sell it for +12%-14% more than wholesale, so their estimated retail prices could range from $750 to $1,700. A private seller will usually aim to sell it for 5%-10%.

If you are going to buy it, I recommend you pay nothing higher than the wholesale prices since the car is old with high mileage. Are you buying from a dealership or a private seller?

Question For AutoBrag: Good Deal or Bad Deal (Updated)

November 9th, 2008

Question From Shlomo: Hi, i have been offered a 2005 accord lx with 36000 miles from a private party. Car is in excellent condition besides for a small crack in the left back bumper. The price is 11,200. I have also been offered a 2007 chevy impala basic model with 20,000 miles for $11,000. Which would you recommend. Thanks

Follow Up Comment:  Hi and thanks for the response. The accord is a 4cy 4 door automatic. The impala is a ls v6. I was wondering if over the long term i would have less problems with the accord. Thanks.

Queen of the Road: Hi there and welcome to AutoBragBlog! It looks like $11,200 for the Honda is a good deal because it’s being offered at a wholesale price. Buying from private party is majority of the time less expensive.

For a 2005 Honda Accord 4C Sedan LX Auto with 36,000 miles, wholesale prices range from $11,700 (being in above average condition) to $10,200 (being in average condition) and $8,600 (being in below average condition). Keep in mind that the numbers above are the wholesale prices.

A dealership will usually aim to sell it for +12%-14% more than wholesale, so their estimated retail prices could range from $9.8k to $13k. In this case, the seller is aiming real high. A private seller will usually aim to sell it for 5%-10%.

Be sure to check carfax on both cars and do plenty of research on the history of each vehicle. Ask for their maintenance records. You can even bring a mechanic for a brief inspection.

About the Impala, just to clarify, which basic model is it: LT 3.5L, LT 3.9L or LTZ?
